WHY WOULD I WANT A TO

ATTEND MY BIRTH?

A Doula is a professional birth coach who provides emotional, informational, physical, and mental support to women during the prenatal, birth, and postpartum periods. Doulas do not provide medical care but are extraordinarily knowledgeable about childbirth.

The Doula's primary role is to provide any necessary support to the mother and her partner during childbirth. Having a Doula will cut back on labor time, help reduce anxiety, and lower the rate of medical intervention such as a C-section. She will also ensure that mama has a positive and safe birth experience, whether in home or at a hospital.

Hi! I'm Ayla Hartless, a certified Birth Doula, Childbirth Educator, and Breastfeeding Educator based in Roanoke, Virginia. With over a decade of experience supporting special needs and senior adults, I aim to help new families navigate their pregnancies, births, and postpartum periods with confidence, education, peace, and joy. As a fellow mama, I've experienced the beauty and empowerment of unmedicated birth and wish for you to experience this as well!

When I'm not coaching my clients, you can find me and my family gardening, serving in church, or snuggling with our dogs.

: I utilize a variety of techniques to improve physical comfort during labor, reduce pain, and promote relaxation. My compassionate presence creates a nurturing environment, while active listening helps me form strong bonds with every mama I assist. I am dedicated to providing reassurance and fostering her sense of security.

: I believe that God uniquely designed every woman's body to give birth to her children. I am of the opinion that women can love their birth experience instead of fearing it. I have personally experienced how beautiful and gentle the birth experience can be when we invite the presence of the Holy Spirit and surrender to the intensity of birth as a way of trusting and worshipping the God of creation. However, sometimes things don't go as planned. Nevertheless, I assure you that I will gently pray and encourage you every step of the way, no matter what twists and turns your journey may take.

: Unlike medical professionals who come and go, I will provide continuous support throughout labor and birth. I am available by phone or in person as soon as labor starts, offering guidance and encouragement during this intense and transformative experience. I am also available during gestation and postpartum, according to each client's preferences.
